Columbia Chamber Winds

Matthew Bickel is the Director of Strings and Assistant Band Director at DeMatha Catholic High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Music Performance (Trumpet) from the Eastman School of Music in 1999. In 2002 Matthew earned his Master of Music Degree in Music Performance (Trumpet) from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Mr. Bickel was a founding member of the Prism Brass Quintet, which was organized in 1996. As a member of the ensemble, he received the Directors Award in Chamber Music from the Eastman School of Music. The ensemble has performed concerts all over the nation and has held residencies at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Chamber Music America’s Rural Residency Program and received a full assistanship from the University of Maryalnd. Prior to teaching at DeMatha, Matthew taught both orchestra and band in the Prince Georges County School System for four years. In 2004 he won a position with the United States Air Force Ceremonial Band but continued with his teaching career.
